Breakwater 2024
Aim
To educate young people about water safety and reduce anti-social behaviour in the harbour area.
To improve communications between young people and the Tenby harbour community.
Objectives
* Show young people the dangers of jumping into water, particularly near boats.
* Educate young people about how to risk assess their own activities, safe ways to enjoy the water and what to do in an emergency.
* Promote better understanding of issues that affect harbour users and foster communication between young people and harbour users.
* Raise awareness amongst young people of the impact of anti-social behaviour related to jumping in the harbour and surrounding area.
Overview
For Breakwater in 2024-year 7 from Greenhill School will participate in three workshops at Greenhill Comprehensive School. The workshops are provided by partners with an invested interest in Water Safety in Tenby, and the wider community.
The workshops consist of:
Information on water safety. There will be discussions with members of the community about their lives and work which aims to build links between young people and harbour users. This workshop will be facilitated by Mid & West Wales Fire & Rescue Service and Tenby Harbour Master.
The RNLI will perform a rescue and give information on first aid and what to do in an emergency.
Pembrokeshire Youth Justice Team and Dyfed Powys Police will discuss peer pressure and the impact of anti-social behaviour linked to water safety.
