Ein gweledigaeth
Ein gweledigaeth yw bod yr iaith Gymraeg yn cael ei defnyddio fel rhan o fywyd bob dydd y disgyblion ac mae’r ysgol gyfan yn cyfrannu at gryfhau a hyrwyddo’r ethos Cymraeg ar draws Ysgol Greenhill a’r gymuned.
Our Vision
Our vision is that the Welsh language is used as a part of pupils' everyday life and the whole school contributes towards strengthening and promoting the Welsh ethos across Ysgol Greenhill and the community.
TAB = Amdanom ni – About us
Ysgol Greenhill is an English Medium school for ages 11-18. The majority of pupils come from a non Welsh-speaking homes and speak Welsh as a second language. In October 2022, we started to implement the 'Siarter Iaith Gymraeg - Cymraeg Campus' framework. We started to run a number of Welsh clubs for pupils and staff such as Welsh Sports Club and Welsh Club. The clubs are helping improve the use of Welsh across the school and have helped to strengthen positive attitudes towards the Welsh language.
We ensured that Welsh was more visible across the school. 'More Welsh signage and Welsh displays were displayed across the school to promote the use of Welsh and strengthen language awareness.
We competed in the Urdd Eisteddfod competitions e.g - Instrumental, Fashion and Recitation Group. We had two pupils who made it to Llanymddyfri 2023 with one pupil winning 1st place in his writing piece.
Being bilingual is not only a communication skill. Access to both languages helps unlock Wales’s rich and unique literatures, geography, democracy, history and culture. To have knowledge, experience and an understanding of these supports learners to be active and successful citizens in contemporary Wales.
We are focused on achieving the aim of ensuring that learners:
are confident in using their Welsh language skills
foster positive attitudes towards the language
increase the use of the language inside and outside the school.
At present, all staff use incidental Welsh in the classroom and in our assemblies, and students have access to a wide range of enrichment apps to enhance their learning and enjoyment of the language. The School holds regular enrichment activities, including Diwrnod Shwmae, Dydd Santes Dwynwen, Dydd Miwsig Cymru, the School Eisteddfod, and trips to Llangrannog, and pupils have the opportunity to expand on their incidental use of Welsh outside the classroom when speaking to members of staff or reading our bilingual displays. One of our next steps as a school is to strengthen our visual Welsh ethos, to ensure that all pupils understand the advantages of learning Welsh and of being bilingual. In committing to this vision as a school we are ensuring that all of our learners are developing skills for life. integral to the new Curriculum for Wales.
