Siarter Iaith – Language charter

During the academic year of 2024/2025 our school achieved the Bronze Award (Gwobr Efydd) in the Siarter Iaith.

The Siarter Iaith (Welsh Language Charter) is a project for schools that was introduced by The Welsh Assembly to work towards the target of one million Welsh speakers by 2050.

INTRODUCTION

Yn ystod flwyddyn academaidd 2024/2025 fel ysgol rydyn ni wedi llwyddo i ennill y Wdor Efydd y Siarter Iaith.

Mae'r Siarter Iaith yn brosiect i ysgolion a chyflwynir gan y Llywodraeth Cymru er mwyn gweithio tuag at y nod o greu 1 miliwn o siaradwr Gymraeg er byn 2050. Pwrpas y prosiect yw hyrwyddo'r iaith Gymraeg a hybu ethos Cymru o fewn yr ysgol. Yn annog disgyblion, rhieni, staff ar gymuned ehangach i ddatblygu eu sgiliau ac ymwybyddiaeth o hanes a diwylliant Cymraeg eu hardal a ledled y byd.

Fel ysgol, rydyn ni'n nawr yn gweithio tuag at ennill y wobr Arian.

Why is learning wels... banner

It keeps your brain fit and healthy.

  • Speaking another language makes your brain more creative.
  • It may help you learn other skills easier, like playing and instrument.
  • It increases the amount of time you can concentrate for.

It will help you learn other languages more easily!

  • When you speak two languages, it is easier for your brain to learn more.

It helps you do better at school.

  • It improves your memory so you can remember more information.

It gives you a sense of Welsh identity and culture.

  • Speaking Welsh helps you understand the street and place names around you. Lots have special meanings that you may otherwise have missed.
  • It gives you a sense of belonging to Wales and its history.

Côr Nadolig

Clwb Cymraeg gathered together to form a choir to sing Christmas carols and songs yn Gymraeg. We were hoping to visit local Nursing Homes, however flu hit.

Dwynwen

Pupils within school bought roses for their friends or loved ones, these were delivered by Criw Cymraeg.

We encouraged the whole school to use their Welsh language, have conversations with friends and teachers, all whilst playing games.

Eisteddfod

All of the Houses came together to participate in this year’s Eisteddfod. Whether it was singing, recitation or dancing, each act was incredible. However, there was one worthy winner - Tŷ Galahad!

ConcertWe took Criw Cymraeg and Clwb Cymrae, as well as well deserving pupils to Queens Hall to watch Mei Gwynedd perform. Roedd yn llawer o hwyl!
